Meet TIKOY

TIKOY came to Kiko's life March of last year. We bought this stuffed dogie at TOY KINGDOM, SM Megamall. When he saw this on the toy shelf, he immediately got hold of it and that's the start of their undeniable closeness.
From then on... Tikoy became his buddy and he will never have his "tatas" (milk) without this stuffed toy around his arms. It's automatic. He cannot sleep without Tikoy and whenever we go out, we bring Tikoy with us. There are times that we have to leave his fave toy but when we get back home, Tikoy is the first one he'll find.
He became so attached with him that we even try to buy another stuffed animal just for replacement when Tikoy needs to be washed. But, nothing can take Tikoy's place in Kiko's life. not even a new one that's exactly like it.
The bond is so strong that, he will quickly get Tikoy out of the dryer even if it's a little wet.
Is this kind of attachment normal for Kiko?
My research tells me that it's just fine. The bond between Kiko with Tikoy plays an important part on his emotional development.
BabyCenter.com states that "Attachments give a child working models for all subsequent relationships in life: This is my friend, who comforts me when I am distressed and shares happy moments with me. These relationships provide a secure base that allows your child to explore her environment and gives her a feeling of mastery over her activities and surroundings."
By the way, I want to share some trivias about Tikoy.
- Kiko's older brother Kurt named the stuffed toy Tikoy because we bought it from Toy Kingdom with acronym TK so TiKoy.
- My mom has a dog named Maki and he looks like Tikoy. He's a tri-color shih tzu. Maybe that's the reason why he picked him up because of his familiarity with Maki.
I guess Tikoy is Kiko's security blanket.

I love naming my stuffed toys too and I am very attached to all of them. :)
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has also named her stuffies. I even get scolded sometimes if I don't get the name right. :D
ReplyDeleteohhh kids are good in naming toys! I just opened a box of stuffed toys that my kids used to play with and they were so happy seeing them again...I insisted that those will be given away but they still picked one or two which they love...

ReplyDeleteOMG! My niece is like that too but instead of a stuff toy, she loves her blanket! She just cant sleep without it! HAHAHA!

ReplyDeleteI'm a guy and also love stuff toys. In Kiko's case, he's deeply attached to Tikoy because he feels more comfortable in a very freeway manner. (Yeah, it's like a baby driving a car on express way, I guess.) I'm wondering if you try an experiment. Buy him lots of stuff toys and let him play 'em all. Observe what will happen.
ReplyDeleteHe's a cutie! I admire that your little boy likes a stuff toy because my little one never learn to play or liked that kind of stuff. He's more into mechanical toys.
ReplyDeleteGuess, it's but normal for kids to get attached to their stuff toys (at a certain age) then later on he will focus on another toy / stuff. Life stages kumbaga.

My son lost his fave toy. I felt so bad for him.

ReplyDeleteBoth Kiko and Tikoy are adorable. It is good for our children to have soft toys like Tikoy. It makes our children feel safe.

ReplyDeleteCute name for a stuff toy...TIKOY...sounds tickling..that's why he enjoyed it a lot because it must have some charm to tickle your little boy whenever they are together..So cute..
