They Get Bored Easily

Kids of today's generation tend to get bored and feel exhausted easily. Sometimes, they can hardly do things productive. Modern technology dominates their lives. Mobile phones and other handheld gadgets seem to be a constant shadow that should follow them anywhere they go.

They can access the web anytime they want. They can watch favorite music videos, chat with friends and play online games. Everything seem to be open and out with only one click of a button or one swipe on the screen.

Kids can do a lot but can be easily wasted and drained. There should be other activities that will make them busy like sports, outdoor games and exercise.

Parents should know how to deal with this dilemma and manage to control or set limitations in order to avoid conflicts. Being understood is different from just being heard. I told my children that they should be responsible for their actions. I always remind them that these devices may bring negative effects if used excessively.

I know, it's a struggle to establish constant and close connection with our children nowadays but we need to be cautious in guiding them on whatever activities they may get into. Our kids should prioritize their studies over these addictive distractions.

His Love for ART

These are some of Kiko's abstract creations. His love for drawing using crayons is just fascinating. Almost everyday, he would get his sketch pad and starts to do random designs. He draws outline of any shape then fills them up with various colors.

His love for art mainly focuses on colors. he even asked me to give him a present this coming Christmas. He wishes to have 96-colored Crayola crayons. He wants different shades. More crayons mean more colorful art pieces like these.

He even provides titles for his artworks so, I have to document this little milestone of this little artist of mine. Maybe, 10 years from now, he will be interested in reading my blog posts about him and take him to a nostalgic recollection of his childhood.

Cuteness Overload

KIKO and the icing on his face
Icing on his face
Do you think this photo is cute? Well, you're absolutely right. This is what I call, "cuteness overload".

If you are a parent with young kids around, I'm sure you have done some naughty things that made them chuckle and giggle like showing them your wackiest face, playing peekaboo, imitating animals' sounds or any silly demonstration that may tickle their little minds.

There’s no better stress-buster than a baby laugh. It's music to our ears and the sound it makes drives us crazy. They are just adorable.

That's my youngest son in the picture when he's one year old. His Papa smeared some chocolate "icing on his face". The smile is so naive and innocent. He didn't even know that his Papa's making fun of him.

This was taken during our summer outing in Laguna and happened to be his older brother's birthday.

Everything is open to serve you
Everything is open to serve you
This second photo is epic... That's Kiko again with his shirt on his head like wearing a bonnet. He looks like a scavenger kid in Smokey Mountain.

Obviously, "everything is open to serve you"... his eyes, nose and mouth are in perfect coordination.

I love to take photos of my children. They are the most beautiful kids on earth. I love to see their smiles especially during infant and toddler years like these two pictures of my youngest, very candid and gullible.

It's Been A Year

Lizette at her Debut Party, 2013
Lizette at her Debut Party, 2013
Yeah! It's been a year now since my daughter had her most memorable birthday... her debut celebration.

She will be turning 19 tomorrow and I am glad she reached this chapter of her life without any health problems, her grades this semester are the highest so far with GPA of 1.64, she's still beautiful and getting more appealing and thank God her status is not yet "IAR" which means, Mama has nothing to worry about boys at this point. Her being a fan girl somehow decreases the possibility of  being involved with someone as of the moment.

Her mind is pre-occupied with the incredible cuteness of Luke, Calum, Ashton and Michael.. the four Aussie guys who dominated the music scene with their debut worldwide release of "She Looks So Perfect" in February, 2014 - topping the charts in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and the UK. Their self-titled album was released  in June 2014. 5SOS (5 Seconds Of Summer) is a boy band that rocks Lizette's world upside-down.

So, don't you wonder why she's single but not available. Actually, she's saving funds to afford their ticket in an upcoming concert in the Philippines. OMG!! I just hope it's not  as high as 1D Live in Manila.

Well, enough for 5SOS because I'm having "LSS" (last song syndrome) with their songs that are repeatedly playing in my subconscious. She never gets enough of Amnesia.

In case you haven't read the highlights of her debut party, please feel free to check these out:

One more year and she will no longer be called a teenager but a young adult who's ready to make her own decisions, aspire bigger and bolder dreams, take responsibility for actions done and build a credible yet humble personality.

As she enters adulthood, I wish her to be more mature and independent but also mindful of our guidance and support in whatever endeavor she has to pursue in the future.

Dirty Ice Cream

Why “dirty ice cream”? Is it because this favorite frozen delight a dirty food? Actually, even I don’t know why it’s called such. So, I made some research about its origin and the reason behind its name.

Here in the Philippines, eating "dirty ice cream" is not only the thing of the past but still a habit of the present. When we were kids, we used to wait for "Mamang Sorbetero" or the ice cream vendor to pass by our street and buy a cone of this cold treat. Dirty ice cream peddlers use colorful-painted carts that can accommodate three flavors.

"Ice cream was introduced in the Philippines during the American Occupation when refrigerators and other cooling devices were introduced. While American ice cream was made with cow's milk, using the milk of the carabao, a kind of water buffalo, resulted in a cheaper product which became known as "sorbetes."
Both kinds of milk are widely used today. Coconut milk and cassava flour are two other ingredients used that make sorbetes unique from ice cream made in other countries. Flavors also varied from the usual natural fruits such as mango, avocado, melon, jackfruit, coconut and strawberry to flavors imitating commercial ice cream such as chocolate, cookies and cream, cheese, mocha, ube, etc.
The sorbetes industry competes with commercially available ice cream from giant companies operating in the Philippines such as Arce Dairy, Magnolia, Nestlé, and Selecta, which also started peddling their product in the streets in more sanitized carts." -Source

In my kid's generation, the ice cream can be placed in plastic cups like what these two schoolmates are holding, wafer or sugar cones or bread buns. They always enjoy eating dirty ice cream together after class.

The term is dirty ice cream because it's being sold in the streets peddled by hawkers who don’t wear any gloves to avoid germs getting into the food. Buyers are not sure if the vendors’ hands are clean and how these ice creams are being prepared. There is health risk in buying these cold treat but children can hardly avoid the temptation.

Chronic Parental Conflict

Photo not mine
Marriage is a lifelong commitment of two individuals who are joined by a matrimonial ceremony. It is the process by which a couple makes their relationship public, official, and permanent. It's a legalized union of two people vowed to live life together, forever. A contract that establishes rights and obligations of both parties involved.

But living together without marriage is definitely a different story.

My husband and I are not a perfect couple. We have had countless arguments but as much as possible, we refrain by doing it in front of our kids. Disagreements and misunderstandings are natural occurrence in any healthy relationship. However, frequent quarrels and fights can resort to saying hurtful comments and behaviors.

These two happy feet are my siblings and they enjoy traveling together. I've posted some of their escapades here:

Their recent travel destination was in Vietnam. They stayed at Holiday View Hotel Catba Island from August 22-26, 2014. Behold the captivating beauty of Halong (Ha Long) Bay through the lens of The Travel Buddies.

Kiko's First Visit to the Dentist

I guess, everyone had experienced a disturbing toothache. This condition is so annoying that we can hardly endure the terrible pain it caused. How much more if  a 5-year old toddler suffer from this unbearable soreness?
Kiko's First Visit to the Dentist
Kiko's First Visit to the Dentist

Kiko has been complaining about a recurring pain in his decayed right molar. Brushing his teeth and taking paracetamol somehow gave him temporary relief. The pain persisted and kept him up for two consecutive nights. My husband and I encouraged him to visit the dentist to check on his aching tooth and he agreed.

July 27, Sunday morning was Kiko's first visit to the dentist. I knew he was a little apprehensive but Doc Ric's warm and friendly approach made Kiko very comfortable.

I thought he's not yet ready to sit on a dental chair but I underestimated the braveness of this young kiddo. He's cooperative that's why, Doc Ric was able to perform two temporary filling successfully with less effort than usual for a toddler his age.

No tooth extraction was advised because, it's too pre-mature for the removal of baby tooth that will guide the permanent  to come out in due time.

Subconjunctival Hemorrhage

Hemorrhage
 in my right eye
Being highly myopic and highly astigmatic, I'm compelled to wear toric contact lenses. Glasses are safer but lenses are more comfortable. I've been using them for decades and fortunately, I've encountered no serious complications for long-term use except last week when my right eye got red.

Actually, it's my sister who first noticed redness in the right corner of my right eye. I did not feel any pain or itchiness. I was alarmed when I saw it totally red upon waking up the following morning. I didn't suspect it was a sore eye but I still went to clinic and had it check.

It's my first time to be diagnosed with a so called, subconjuctival hemmorrhage. I was advised not to wear lenses for a week or two until the redness disappear completely.

Diagnosed with Cystic Follicle

TVS diagnosis
Every woman should know her reproductive system not only because it is an essential part of existence but for purposes of prevention and treatment of possible diseases that may be encountered in a lifetime.

Being a woman and mother, I'm aware that as I grow older, I will experience a lot of changes, psychological or physical. I passed the stage of adolescence and puberty long time ago. I've already enjoyed the gift of conception and pregnancy. And now, I'm entering a new chapter... my middle age.

What is Adenomyosis

If I remember it right, I've never had abnormal menstrual flow. My monthly period comes on a regular basis but last month, I experienced prolonged menstrual bleeding. I felt so apprehensive that's why, on the eve of my birthday, I have to see an OB-Gyne for consultation.

Since my former OB is now in Canada, my records are being turned over to Dra. Joanne V. Legaspi. She's also affiliated with The Medical City and Ardi Health Care Center. Dra. Legaspi advised me to undergo TVS (Trans-vaginal Ultrasound) for accurate diagnosis of my condition.

I took the ultrasound immediately. Thanks to my hubby who's always willing to accompany me in times like this.

DIAGNOSIS:

  • NORMAL SIZED RETROVERTED UTERUS MILD ADENOMYOSIS
  • THIN ENDOMETRIUM
  • NORMAL RIGHT OVARY
  • CYSTIC FOLLICLE, LEFT
  • NO FLUID IN THE CUL DE SAC

I've been diagnosed with mild Adenomyosis. I had it long before my second childbirth but, I didn't feel any discomforts until I had this symptom of prolonged menstrual flow.

KIKO is Turning Five

Five years back, I glanced at this cute chubby face for the very first time. From day one up to this writing, he never fails to amuse me... the way he thinks and speaks out his thoughts, the way he moves and reacts to situations. He has this prominent character that makes our lives more interesting and tiresome at the same time.

Newly born Kiko
Newly born Kiko
I was bound to be a mother for the last time with him and I will surely miss being pregnant and feel the first trimester hang-ups. Having three wonderful kids is a treasure itself. Being a mother is priceless.

Looking for a nanny is no longer relevant. I can't imagine anybody to take care of him other than myself. It's not that he's so dependent on me as normal kids do with their moms but, I guess I'm the one who is dependent on him.

Few weeks ago, he thought of sleeping with his Kuya KD. For the first time, he's out of our bed. My husband and I were unable to sleep soundly. Maybe, we are not used to be separated with Kiko at night. It seems that I am not ready for it, yet. I need more time to prepare myself for that kind of adjustment.

The 2-night trial ended when Kiko suddenly felt an ache in his mouth and he had to wake up in the middle of the night, knocked at our room's door just to tell me that he's not feeling well. That's when he got back to our bed and slept with us again. He needed me... he still longs for a mother's touch, my TLC.

My Toddler Artist

If you are an avid reader of my blog, you probably knew KIKO and his little milestones from being an adorable baby to a smart little toddler. I was able to document some of his "little big moments" in these following posts:

Kiko's Nursery Report Card
Kiko's Nursery Report Card
He started to attend school as early as 2 1/2 years old. He's good in written examinations but according to his moderators from pre-nursery and nursery classes, he's quiet and seldom participated actively in discussions. I guess this greatly affected his class standing.  He got an average of 88.97 which could have been higher.

Anyways, Kiko is just turning 5 this coming June so there's a long, long way to go for this young kiddo to develop his skills and abilities.

Kiko's vision of our floor plan
Kiko's vision of our floor plan
Colors and shapes are amongst his line of interest. He would always get his color pencils or markers to draw anything.

He loves to doodle and scribble like any normal growing kid his age but his art works seem to amaze me because he prefers the unconventional. Plain and simple kinda bore him.

Painting using water color is another hobby of this little master. There's this one place in SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City called Kiddy's Arts Town that he regularly visits where his creativity and artistry are being utilized. His favorite, Rubber Art Color painting where he will choose a drawing pattern and fill it up with different colors. Afterwards, it will be cooked in the oven for 30 seconds and cooled it off with water.

Believe It or Not - RUMORS of the Past Part 1

These are only few of the controversial issues about famous people and intriguing facts about historical events that may fascinate your senses as I am overwhelmed by the thought of traveling back in time... if only I have the power.

Not every detail of the past had  been written or documented. There are missing links that keep challenging our intellect up to this time. Countless mysteries that will remain unknown and inexplicable.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN is gay.
-According to Ms Sylvia Rhue's post in Huffington:

"Over 16,000 books have been written about Abraham Lincoln, our greatest president. Many of these books either allude to or specifically report on Lincoln's ambiguous relationships with men. Lincoln lived with and shared a bed with Joshua Speed for four years, and they remained friends years after they no longer lived together. He also had a close relationship with Captain David Derickson, who would stay with Lincoln overnight at the Soldier's Home (a retreat from the White House) when Lincoln's wife Mary left town. There were reports of Captain Derickson wearing Lincoln's nightshirt, and Lincoln has been quoted as saying, with a "twinkle" in his eye, "The captain and I are getting quite thick."

Although he fathered four children with Mary Todd, Lincoln's sexuality became a subject for debate of historians and scholars. His intimate relationship with men was believed to be an example of  "the closeting history" -such mystery and secrecy of historical figures like that of the 16th US President Abe Lincoln should be suppressed and hidden.

SELFIE Here, SELFIE There, SELFIE Everywhere

The world is a place where humans and everything around live and interact freely. It's a huge expanse of varied cultures and races. People are more susceptible to change that will greatly improve the quality of life.

Now, Earth is considered to be not only a planet for shelter but a global village where mankind enjoys the comforts and luxuries of living.

As technology flourishes, everything seems to be achievable and possible. Information, experiences and new discoveries are within reach faster then ever. Geographical distance is no longer a hindrance to know people from around the world.

Communications become easier and more convenient. Through social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, the world is now an open book that anybody can see and read in just a few clicks away.

So, what's the "in" thing today? I mean there's a word circulating practically in every corner of the planet. Celebrities do it. Politicians do it as well and even the most powerful and influential personalities like US President Barack Obama and His Highness Pope Francis enjoy it.

Do the "selfie" shot!

SELFIE means a photo taken by oneself using a hand-held digital camera, webcam or smartphone.

It levels up to a group selfie where the photo taker is part of the portrait.

Most people are overwhelmingly delighted to create and share their selfie photographs in various social networking sites. Some of which are dubbed to be most tweeted and shared like that of Ms Ellen DeGeneres' epic Oscars Twitter Selfie. It's being retweeted 3.4M times and favorited 2M times and counting. The popularity of selfie in the online world goes viral that even dogs do it. LOL!!!

Mosquito - the Deadliest Animal in the World

Photo not mine

Causing more than 2 million deaths every year, the deadliest animal in the world is mosquito.

This little irritating flying creature is a nuisance that bites. It carries harmful and even fatal illnesses and considered to be public enemy number one in the fight against global infectious disease. According to National Geographic:

“Mosquitoes use exhaled carbon dioxide, body odors and temperature, and movement to home in on their victims. Only female mosquitoes have the mouth parts necessary for sucking blood. When biting with their proboscis, they stab two tubes into the skin: one to inject an enzyme that inhibits blood clotting; the other to suck blood into their bodies. They use the blood not for their own nourishment but as a source of protein for their eggs. For food, both males and females eat nectar and other plant sugars.
They transmit disease in a variety of ways. In the case of malaria, parasites attach themselves to the gut of a female mosquito and enter a host as she feeds. In other cases, such as yellow fever and dengue, a virus enters the mosquito as it feeds on an infected human and is transmitted via the mosquito’s saliva to a subsequent victim."

There are practically million ways to enhance or edit a photograph. Modern technology offers a variety of applications in which it can be possible. Image editing can be used to manipulate or modify certain image such as correcting imperfections, re-sizing or cropping, adjusting color or any purpose for that matter. But there are applications available that can create a simple photo into a work of art.

I've posted a number of blog entries about my talented niece, Claire Dave. She can be a promising photographer. Just look at how she perfectly captured amazing jump shots here. She's fond of editing pictures of herself and created these makeovers.

Adobe Photoshop is complex and requires training to master the program but there are easier to use tools like what Claire Dave is using to create these edits:

What Other Hearts May Say

As humans who are rational in nature, we have the ability to comprehend and understand the definition of LOVE. We cannot describe it in only one word because of its complexity but we can express it in countless ways.

Our mind can control our emotions but our heart may say otherwise.

Can you find your heart here?

GRATEFUL heart may say...

"My life has never been this amazing since you came into my world. You've accepted me for what I am and love me for who I am. Despite the past, you're here to stay."

GENEROUS heart may say:

"I love you more than myself. If you're happy with someone else, I'm willing to give up the fight and if ever you failed to seek the love I gave you... never think twice, I'm always waiting for your return."
